Best Mousepad for Aim - Control vs Speed Compared

Updated April 2026. We tested every pad on this list against Valorant deathmatch, CS2 1v1 servers, and Kovaak's benchmark scenarios.

Quick picks

Mousepad choice is the most under-discussed gear decision in FPS. Players obsess over mice and DPI but plug them into a $5 cloth pad, lose 20% of their tracking consistency, and blame their sensor. We will not let that happen to you.

Control vs Speed - what the words actually mean

Control pads have higher static friction. The mouse stops crisply where you stop pushing. Good for micro-adjustments, head-tap aim, and slow-sens players. Examples: Artisan Zero (Soft), Pulsar ParaControl V2, Razer Gigantus V2.

Speed pads have lower friction in both directions. The mouse glides further per push. Good for flick-heavy aim, low-sens swipe motions, and Apex/Quake-style movement. Examples: Artisan Hien (Mid), Razer Strider, Glorious Element Air.

Hybrid pads aim for a balance. The Logitech G840 is the most-bought hybrid in 2026 because it does not punish either style.

Glass pads are a third category. Near-zero friction in motion, slightly higher static friction. Tracking aim becomes effortless. Skypad 3.0 has been creeping into the pro scene since 2024.

Top 5 mousepads ranked

1. Artisan Zero (Soft) - $65 · Control

The pad TenZ used during his 2021 Champions run. Made in Japan, lasts forever, soft base for shoulder-arm aim. The "Soft" version is the slowest of the three Zero variants - perfect for Valorant tap-fire and CS2 spray control.

2. Logitech G840 XL - $60 · Hybrid

900x400mm. Polyester surface that splits the difference between Hien and Zero. The default safe pick - if you do not know your preference yet, buy this and figure it out over a month.

3. Skypad 3.0 XL - $99 · Glass

Glass tempered surface. Tracking on this pad feels like cheating. Two downsides: it is loud (the mouse skates audibly), and you need glass-friendly skates (most modern feet are).

4. Artisan Hien (Mid) - $50 · Speed

Hard, smooth, fast. Apex pros love it. Recommended if your eDPI is under 250 and you swipe across the pad to flick.

5. Pulsar ParaControl V2 - $35 · Control · Budget

The best value in the category. Control feel close to a mid-Zero, build quality 90% there, half the price.

Size guide - do not buy too small

If your low-eDPI flick runs off the pad - even once a session - the pad is too small. You will subconsciously shorten your flick and your accuracy drops.

Care, and when to replace

Wash cloth pads every 2 months in cold water with mild soap. Air-dry. Most pads last 12-18 months before the friction profile drifts. Glass pads last forever - wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Pro insight: mouse skates and pad form a system. A new pad with old skates feels different from a new pad with new skates. Replace skates every 6 months and your "this pad slowed down" complaints will mostly disappear.
